I remember when I sat in a graduate-level GIS class in 2018 and the professor told us to turn on our Desktops and boot up ArcGIS. I was struck, I couldn't believe that GIS was still using a desktop application as an industry standard.

Server-Client Relationship

The "Web" is composed of clients and servers. Clients are machines (possibly driven by a user) that are making a request to a server.
